Acupuncture at Blakelands Hospital
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a treatment derived from ancient Chinese medicine in which fine needles are inserted at certain sites in the body for therapeutic or preventative purposes.
Evidence suggest that the insertion of acupuncture needles into specific anatomical points stimulates the central nervous system to release pain relieving chemicals such as endorphins into the body.
The role of acupuncture in pain management is increasingly recognised, as evidenced in the NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) recommendation of using acupuncture in low back pain, tension headaches and migraine.
Acupuncture may help:
- Pain, nausea and dizziness
- Acute/chronic injuries
- Arthritis/rheumatism
- Back/Neck pain – eg. whiplash injuries
- Headaches
- Stress related difficulties
- Muscle/joint problems
- Sports injuries
