Is your treatment not covered by the NHS?
Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGS) are the NHS organisations responsible for buying healthcare services for the local populations they serve whilst adhering to statutory guidance. Commissioners, (those buying the services) have a responsibility to use the resources they have allocated to them.
Some treatments and surgery have been identified as being either only marginally effective or ineffective with limited clinical value, or an inefficient use of resources given the outcome of these treatments. These cases are what are known as Procedures of Limited Clinical Value, (PoLCV).
Your GP or Consultant will have given you an information leaflet or information to explain that the procedure you have been identified as needing falls within the category defined by your Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) as a Procedure of Limited Clinical Value and is therefore not funded by the NHS locally.
For a list of Procedures of Limited Clinical Value please go to the CCG website(s):
Some procedures are also restricted by your CCG, this means that a set of criteria has been applied against some procedures, and the procedure can only be undertaken if you meet the criteria. If this is a procedure you may benefit from Ramsay Healthcare will apply to your CCG for the funding on your behalf.
Ramsay Healthcare however do not have any influence over the CCG’s decision.
If you would like further information please contact your CCG directly at the address provided or alternatively contact your GP who will be able to advise you on how you can help manage your condition or what community services may be able to help.
